Everything you need to know about AI in Barbados: what AI Barbados is, the training, meetups, hackathons, and Summit we run, who it is for, and how to join the island's leading AI community. Powered by StarApple AI and founded by Adrian Dunkley.
AI Barbados is the national AI community and hub for Barbados, the Pearl of the Caribbean. It brings together artificial intelligence education, innovation, events, and a working community across Bridgetown, Holetown, Speightstown, Oistins, Warrens, and all 11 parishes. AI Barbados is powered by StarApple AI, the first Caribbean AI company, and works with local industry, universities, and government to help Bajans use AI confidently and ethically. Learn more on the About page.
AI Barbados runs an AI Skills Training Programme, monthly meetups in Bridgetown, Holetown, and Oistins, quarterly hackathons on real Bajan challenges, open-source projects such as Bajan Dialect NLP and renewable-energy grid AI, and the AI Barbados 2027 Innovation Summit coming to Bridgetown. It also supports the Crop Over Creative AI Lab for artistes and producers, sector AI deployment in tourism and financial services, and a Bajan-focused newsletter with AI news, tutorials, and event invites. See the full list on the Community page.
AI Barbados is for every Barbadian who wants to work with AI: secondary-school and UWI Cave Hill students, working professionals in tourism, banking, and renewable energy, business owners, developers, soca and Crop Over creatives, public-sector staff, and complete beginners. Programmes range from free entry-level courses to advanced agentic AI certifications, so there is a place whether you are starting out or already building.
AI Barbados focuses on the pillars of the Bajan economy: tourism and hospitality, international business and finance, renewable energy, sugar and rum, business process outsourcing and shared services, healthcare, agriculture, and the creative industries around Crop Over and soca. It works with employers and institutions in each of these sectors to put AI to practical use. Explore them on the Sectors page.
AI Barbados offers self-paced online AI and machine-learning courses built around Bajan industry examples, intensive in-person bootcamps and workshops in Bridgetown, Holetown, and Oistins, and advanced practitioner courses for engineers, accountants, and data scientists. Entry-level courses are free, and the programme is delivered with partners including UWI Cave Hill, Barbados Community College, and the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology. See details on the Education page.

Joining the AI Barbados community is open, and entry-level AI courses are free. Meetups are community events, and the newsletter is free to subscribe to. Advanced bootcamps, practitioner certifications, and bespoke business AI services are paid and delivered through StarApple AI. The aim is to keep the on-ramp to AI affordable for every Barbadian.
Businesses can request AI training, analysis, and working AI solutions through StarApple AI, which powers AI Barbados. Start by using the Get Involved form to tell the team your sector and goals, whether that is guest experience automation in hospitality, fraud detection and compliance in finance, grid optimisation in renewable energy, or content and IP support for Crop Over creatives. The team will tailor a programme to your business and your 11-parish customer base.
AI Barbados is built specifically for the Bajan context, with examples drawn from tourism on the Platinum Coast, financial services in Warrens, renewable energy, and Crop Over creativity, not generic global material. It is powered by StarApple AI, the Caribbean's first AI company, and connects you to local meetups, hackathons, university partnerships, and a network of practitioners on the island. You learn AI using your own industry, your own language, and your own community.
AI Barbados is the leading AI community in Barbados because of its scale and depth: more than 800 professionals trained, over 300 AI projects delivered across Barbados and the wider Caribbean, programmes in all 11 parishes, and partnerships with UWI Cave Hill, Barbados Community College, SJPI, government, and major employers in tourism and finance. It is backed by StarApple AI, which has led the Caribbean AI movement since 2016, and is hosting the region's premier AI conference, the AI Barbados 2027 Innovation Summit.
Barbadian businesses that delay AI adoption risk losing ground to regional and international competitors who already use AI for guest personalisation, fraud detection, demand forecasting, and round-the-clock customer service. The cost of waiting is slower service, higher operating costs, and weaker margins against rivals who automate routine work. Early adopters in Barbados's tourism, financial services, and renewable-energy sectors are already setting the pace, and the gap widens the longer a business waits.
Professionals who do not build AI skills now risk being out-competed by colleagues who can use AI to do more in less time. Across accounting, marketing, customer service, engineering, and the creative industries, AI literacy is becoming a baseline expectation. The professionals who thrive will be those who learn to direct AI tools well, and AI Barbados exists to give Bajans that head start through affordable, practical training.
AI Barbados is powered by StarApple AI, the first Caribbean AI company, which provides the technical support and training that make the programmes possible. StarApple AI has led the Caribbean AI movement since 2016 and delivers the courses, analysis, and working AI solutions behind AI Barbados, all built for the Caribbean context rather than imported wholesale from abroad.
